Return & Rehoming Policy

The lifetime obligation to contact the seller before rehoming, and how a return is handled.

Policy 11 Last updated: August 2026 Applies to MiniSchnauzerpups.com

If you can no longer keep the dog — at any point in its life, for any reason — it comes back to us rather than going anywhere unplanned.

01The obligation

If at any point in the dog's life the buyer can no longer keep it, the buyer must contact the seller before taking any other step.

The dog must not be surrendered to a shelter or pound, sold or given away privately, advertised on a classifieds site or social media, transferred to a rescue organisation, or abandoned.

This obligation has no expiry. It applies at six weeks and at eleven years.

02Why it exists

Circumstances change: illness, bereavement, divorce, redundancy, a move, a new baby, an allergy. None of those makes anyone a bad owner, and the policy is not written to shame people who find themselves in one of them.

It exists because a dog with a known origin and a known history has somewhere to go, and a dog without one ends up in the system. Contacting the seller costs nothing and is not an admission of failure.

03How a return works

  1. Contact the seller at info@minischnauzerpups.com, describing the situation honestly, including any behavioural or medical issue.
  2. The seller responds with options, which may include taking the dog back, assisting with a carefully vetted rehoming, or — where the problem is solvable — helping to solve it instead.
  3. Arrangements for transport, records and transfer of ownership are agreed in writing.
  4. The dog is returned with its records, and any registration paperwork is transferred back.

04Money

A return under this policy is not a refund. Whether any payment is made to the buyer on a return outside the 30-day settling-in period, and who bears the cost of transport, must be stated by the seller.

A return outside the settling-in period is not a refund — no payment is made to the buyer — and the buyer arranges and pays for return transport. We take the dog back regardless of how long it has been, because the alternative is worse for the dog.

Returns within the settling-in period are dealt with under the refund policy.

05Before you decide it is not working

Many of the reasons people rehome a young dog are solvable: house-training setbacks, night waking, nipping, barking, separation distress, an unexpected reaction to a change at home. Most respond to a qualified trainer or a veterinary behaviourist, and most get harder the longer they are left.

Ask before you conclude. That is what this policy is for.

06Onward placement

A returned dog is assessed and placed thoughtfully or kept. It is not resold in haste, and the original buyer is entitled to know that the dog has been placed, though not to the new owner's details.

A question about a clause is exactly why the clause is published. Ask before you commit, not afterwards.
